Sock it to them!
It was Odd Sock Day on Monday 10 November, an event that takes place during Anti-Bullying week to promote individuality and kindness. Wearing odd socks for the day is a fun and positive way for children to express themselves, raise awareness about inclusion, acceptance and respect, and to remind everyone that we are all different, which is something to feel proud of! So, this week in The Art Room, we asked everyone to design their own pair of mismatched socks to reflect their unique personality, interests and imagination.
The originality of The Art Room sock collection was fabulous! With strong, vibrant designs the children showed their love of colour, pattern and art making by incorporating techniques we’d used in other sessions to confidently produce and enhance their designs.
Our second challenge of the session was to take inspiration from a famous work or art and design an ‘art sock’ by incorporating details from a celebrated work that caught the children’s eye from a range of resources in the classroom. Monet’s Bridge at Giverny, Warhol’s Cola bottles and Van Gogh’s Sunflowers were carefully studied and reimagined as hosiery with wonderful eye-catching results.
Innovation, collaboration and fun shone around The Art Room this week and the diverse assortment of socks, presented with pride at the end of the session, had the makings of a very special collection.
