Winter Wonderland

It started to feel a bit festive in The Art Room this week as our imaginations roamed free among sparkling skies, snowy vistas and the inky shadows of a winter wonderland.

Inspired by the magical glow of the Northern Lights, the children captured the dynamism of this natural light display by using washes of watercolour and bold sweeps of acrylic paint and illuminated their wintery landscapes with spectacular multi-colour.

With their backgrounds bursting with vibrant patterns of brilliant lights – spirals, rays, ribbons and flickers – the children personalised their paintings with foreground details of their choice.  Some framed their compositions with bold silhouettes of spikey pine trees while others featured tiny arctic creatures nestled in a bed of snow. Not surprisingly, the distinctive outline of Santa’s sleigh was the most popular motif to dash across these beautiful, starry skies this week, a sign that everyone is ready to get creative with Christmas next week for our final session of the term!
