Say it with Flowers
As the evenings get longer and the first signs of spring appear, The Art Room has been blooming with creativity and colour. So, this week we celebrated the season by thinking about how flowers brighten our homes and our hearts – whether picked fresh from the garden, arranged in a vase on a table top, or given as a gift on Mother’s Day. Inspired by these springtime traditions, our classes were filled with vibrant petals and imaginative patterns as our young artists created armfuls of bold paper flowers and a striking display of colourful cardboard vases.
Working with oil pastels, our youngest artists were encouraged to innovate freely when making their radiant blooms and created dazzling discs of pattern and colour to attach to the top of paper stems. Shape and texture were also considered by our older artist, who used bright washes of watercolour and plenty of imagination to carefully design and create their bunches of flowers, adding detail and form with individually crafted leaves.
Beautiful arrangements were brought together at the end of class in individual vases, carefully cut, curled and shaped from sheets of rainbow-coloured card to become vivid and eye-catching centrepieces. Everyone did an amazing job to bring a little piece of spring indoors this week as well as raise plenty of proud smiles within the group. Traditionally associated with love, friendship, appreciation and thoughtfulness, the Art Room posies mixed the language of flowers with creativity to share the sentiments of their creators.
