Eyes on the Pies
Flaky or shortcrust, savoury or sweet, there’s something wonderfully comforting about tucking into a good pie, particularly when enjoyed with family and friends. So, when British Pie Week came around, we couldn’t resist celebrating it together in The Art Room in our own fun and creative way!
Reaching for pencils over rolling pins, our young artists explored this week’s theme by rustling up a slice of pie made to their very own recipe with a unique twist of artistic flair. From colourful drawings of classic favourites like apple or pork pie to imaginative creations with rainbow fillings and indulgent decorations on pastry tops, the Art Room children cooked up some truly tempting plates.
Everyone did a great job to give three-dimensional form to their artworks by using basic geometric shapes to build their individual slices of pie. We talked about how to foreshorten objects to give the illusion of depth and practiced drawing our plates in an oval rather than a circular shape. Once the basic ingredients were in the mix, it was over to our young artists to concoct their dream pie and serve it up on a personalised plate. With free choice over the design and the media used, we were treated to some fabulously colourful and imaginative results, all worthy of a Hollywood Handshake!
