Holiday snaps

It was fantastic to welcome everyone back into the Art Room this week for a brand new term!  We have loads of new arty projects and activities planned for the coming weeks but, for our first session back, we wanted the children to have a moment to recall and to share the exciting adventures, big and small, that they have enjoyed over the summer break.  We loved hearing about all the many different things the children had done, the places they had visited and the people they had seen. And it was extra special to see them transform these holiday memories so creatively to personalise their colourful, ‘holiday snaps’ artworks.

Tasked with choosing their absolute summer favourites, the children captured a camera roll of special memories by illustrating their best experiences on paper. Their mini compositions framed a wonderful array of moments from spotting the tiniest bug and eating the juiciest burger to watching a music festival set and splashing in the pool with family and friends!  Using pencil crayons and colouring pens, the children were challenged to work on a small scale and to fill each image with as much detail as possible, remembering to set the scene with background elements that would be sure to captivate their viewer.

Presented alongside a personalised paper camera design, everyone’s chosen snapshots displayed masses of visual impact! We hope you’ve all enjoyed sharing these holiday memories from your little artists’ perspective and after a rather wet and dreary start to September the children’s artworks have managed to extend the summer vibe a tiny bit longer.
