Special Collections
Since ancient times, people have collected objects to cherish, display and to share. This weekend, the custodians of special collections across the world will celebrate International Museum Day, an annual event that highlights the role museums and galleries can play in helping us to understand the world around us with the stories they tell about our history, our art and our culture through displays of the objects that they house. This week, adopting the role of the curator, everyone in The Art Room created their own special collections of artworks for their friends and families to enjoy.
In our preschool classes our youngest artists created special gold and silver picture frames in which they displayed their finished masterpieces. From family portraits and dotty patterns to terrifying T-rexes and gingerbread men, the children treated us to a wonderfully eclectic collection of paintings of things that were important to them!
Afterschool our older artists constructed individual mini galleries from paper and card and were given free reign to curate their own exhibit: from wall colour to flooring, framing to display, each child exhibited miniature artworks that captured the spirit of previous Art Room projects and showcased their many innovative signature-styles. We give everyone a 5* review!
