Hello Yellow!
Friday 11 October 2025 is World Mental Health Day. Taking inspiration once again from UK charity Young Minds, who invite people to come together by wearing yellow for the day, we asked everyone to say “Hello Yellow” in The Art Room this week to celebrate the joy and positivity that can be experienced through making art and in coming together to share in mindful creativity.
Whilst donning our yellow aprons at the start of yesterday’s sessions, we talked about how bright and sunny colours can be uplifting and how artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, who was renowned for his Yellow Period, used colours to express a range of emotions. A cheerful bunch of sunflowers provided the centre piece for our yellow-themed workspace and, armed with an array of golden-hued reference images and objects to spark their imagination, the children set about creating vibrant artworks that simply expressed something that made them feel happy and in turn made everyone smile.
Given free rein to follow their instincts and work on their own designs, the children were prolific in their making. We were treated to a fabulous display of zingy creations, from comical Minions and banana creatures to still-life lemons and leaf-printed flowers. Well done everyone, there was loads to feel happy and proud about and the Art Room felt especially sunny this week!
