Blossoming artists

It felt very spring-like in the Art Room this week as the sun streamed through the windows and candy-coloured blossoms were sprinkled throughout our ‘happy place’ along with the vibrant colours and shapes of Easter.

Our preschoolers and their grown-ups got busy making Easter cards complete with cute baby chicks to slot into brightly decorated, egg-shaped designs.  Our youngest artists were introduced to a new medium this week and did a fantastic job carefully mixing and sweeping watercolour paint in rainbow shades across their paper.  As the children grow in confidence, it’s wonderful to see the individual creativity shine through in each of the activities and the big smiles that light up the room when a work of art is ready for sharing and display!

Afterschool, as well as decorating their beautiful clay ornaments ready for display at Eastertime, the children in both classes were super excited to complete their landscape paintings that they began in acrylic paints last week.  We talked about how to add depth and texture to our composition by thinking about the size and position of the trees and where to add highlights to each trunk to capture where the sunlight might fall. Each painted scene was then transformed with delicate swirls of pastel pinks, vibrant, rosy reds and frothy white petals of paint as all our artists explored their own way of representing the joyous and abundant display of blossom that completed their sunny, springtime scene. They all looked fabulous!

Thank you to all our artists for bringing such enthusiasm to our classes this term and for embracing lots of different ideas and ways of working.  You have all created an amazing range of art works which we hope make you feel very proud.
